BLADE RUNNER (1982)

The film Blade Runner is an adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream on Electric Sheep? The film was directed by Ridley Scott. It stars Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard, Rutger Hauer as Roy Batty, Sean Young as Rachael and Daryl Hannah as Pris. The film won the BAFTA Awards for Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design and Best Production Design and the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation.

It is a science fiction cult movie. It’s a dystopian future set in Los Angeles in 2019. It was filmed on location in Los Angeles: in The Bradbury Building or the Ennis-Brown House, among others.

The film is about a former police
officer, Deckard, who has to search and destroy a group of four fugitive androids known as replicants. They are Nexus-6, created by Tyrell Corporation to work on space colonies, with a great intelligence and a superior strength but without empathy and feelings. That is why they are programmed to live only four years, consequently they're going to look for their maker to demand more life. To discover the replicants, blade runner Deckard has to administer a test of empathy that distinguishes them from humans. My favorite scene is in the end when Roy, the leader of the replicants, feels that his life cycle is going to end appearing to be human.

I strongly recommend Blade Runner because is regarded as one of the all-time best science fiction films. It has a superb soundtrack composed by Vangelis. It’s one of my favourite films because of its narrative, its dark atmosphere typical of film noir, its magnificent special effects and its moral and philosophic message, which also reminds of Frankenstein.
